Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at 215-491-4101 or email  info@villagecompoundingpharmacy.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Compounding is the art and science of preparing personalized medications to meet each patient’s specific needs. There are many important medical reasons why compounding may be necessary. For example, a patient might be allergic to a certain ingredient—such as a dye or preservative—found in a commercial product. In these cases, our pharmacists can create the medication from pure ingredients while leaving out the problematic substance.

If a patient has difficulty swallowing pills, we can prepare the same medication in a liquid, topical cream, or transdermal gel form. Compounding also allows us to make exact strengths or customized doses that aren’t commercially available, as well as improve the taste of medications to make them easier to take.

Any licensed healthcare provider can prescribe a compounded medication. While some physicians may be less familiar with prescribing non-commercial formulations, our team at Village Compounding Pharmacy works closely with practitioners to help determine the most appropriate customized preparation for each patient’s needs.

We take pride in maintaining open communication with healthcare providers and can also connect patients with physicians who regularly prescribe compounded medications.
